A special thanks to everyone who came out to the launches of The Great Garden Mystery in Melbourne at The Little Bookroom and in Brisbane at The Avid Reader.

We solved a mystery…

…read the story and created some scratch art…

…and ate a few beetroot cookies and other surprises (sorry — I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone who hasn’t read it yet!).

I will also be presenting a 45-minute program for 5-8 year olds during school holidays on Wednesday 1 October at 2:30. We will talk about The Great Garden Mystery and explore scratch art in detail at the Reservoir Library. The event is free but bookings are required. Let me know if you can make it!

Goodbye beautiful (and messy) studio! I will miss you 💕.

I have been pulling out every excuse as to why I cannot possibly start packing my creative space, but today is the day. I’m trying not to think about how long it will be until I find another space and friends and community like I’ve had here in Torquay (and, for the record, I will continue bottling up those emotions for another day).

This has been my refuge for almost five years: I’ve written and illustrated over 500 pages of Sherlock Bones and seven-and-a-half Ollie and Bea books here, I’ve weathered months (and months) in this space with a homeschooling grade 5/6 child, and illustrated so many special picture books sitting in that chair.

I know it’s time to start looking forward to new adventures and friends and community, which I know will be wonderful and amazing too, but right now it’s so hard.

Anyway, starting small. One box at a time. Coming soon to WA.

Today was my first full day of my writing fellowsh

Today was my first full day of my writing fellowship at the KSP Writers’ Centre. I feel so lucky to be here!

I spent most of the day muddling my way through Photoshop for the iPad but think/hope tomorrow will be a little smoother. Does anyone else use this on their iPad? It’s missing a few tools that I normally use (hence the muddling), but seems to be working well.

I’ve seen so many red-tailed black cockatoos that I’ve lost count. Here’s a video of four chatty ones I found this morning.
